Derry / Londonderry phone numbers

Derry / Londonderry ranges explained

Derry, Londonderry and the two city ranges

02871 and 02872 are both associated with Derry / Londonderry. The name used on your signage does not change the digits or how callers dial. Our existing range guide also lists Bready, Campsie, Claudy, Cross, Dunamanagh, Eglinton, Strabane; this is a guide to number locality, not a promise of phone-service coverage at any address.

If you want a particular 02872 pattern and none is listed, check the 02871 stock as well. A number in either range still needs an accepting provider and a completed transfer before it can be used on your service.

Writing and dialling a city number

From the UK

(028) 71xx xxxx
or (028) 72xx xxxx. Keep all eight local digits.

International format

+44 28 71xx xxxx
or +44 28 72xx xxxx. Drop the UK leading zero.

From the Republic of Ireland

048 71xx xxxx
or 048 72xx xxxx is an alternative to the international form. Charges depend on the caller’s plan.

The x characters are placeholders, not numbers offered for sale.

Checks before a north-west number transfer

Can I use the number with my current provider?

Ask whether they can accept the specific 02871 or 02872 number onto your account and service address. This matters especially if your service is based in the Republic of Ireland: the 048 dialling alternative does not make a UK number automatically compatible with an Irish phone service.

Who supplies calls and sets up call routing?

Your compatible provider supplies the service and configures how calls reach you. NI Phone Numbers sells the listed number as a one-off purchase and supports the transfer process; the purchase is not a line, handset or calling plan.

When should I change signs or stationery?

Wait for transfer completion and confirm that calls reach the intended destination with your provider. Timescales depend on the providers and the details supplied, so do not assume a fixed activation date.
